Wide receiver Laviska Shenault Jr. is headed to the Carolina Panthers after being traded by the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Panthers have sent an undisclosed draft compensation to the Jaguars in exchange for Shenault, while the Jaguars will receive a 2023 seventh-round draft pick and a 2024 sixth-round selection.
Shenault, who is 23 years old, has played in the NFL for two seasons and achieved more than 600 yards in both seasons.
The trade is a good move for the Panthers, who have been looking for offensive talent. Although some speculated that the Panthers might be interested in Jets wideout Denzel Mims - who had requested a trade last week and played for Panthers head coach Matt Rhule in college - the Panthers opted for another young talent.
One reason behind the Panthers' trade was due to offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo's prior connection with Shenault during his stint as a quarterbacks coach in Jacksonville in 2020. Additionally, Shenault's physical attributes, such as his 6-foot-1 stature, 227-pound weight, physicality, and proficiency in run-blocking, distinguish him from the team's other wide receivers.
In addition to the Shenault trade, the Panthers have also traded offensive lineman Dennis Daley and a 2024 seventh-round draft pick to the Titans for a 2024 fifth-round selection. Daley, a Panthers sixth-round pick in 2019, has played both tackle and guard over the past three seasons and has made 21 starts in 34 games played.
